As Per BMJ Study, Sweetened Drinks May Up the Cancer Risk
Usually soft drinks contains carbonated water, a
sweetener, and natural or artificial flavoring. The over consumption of sugar
sweetened soft drinks is associated with obesity, hypertension, type 2
diabetes, dental caries and low nutritional levels. The risks of obesity in
turn is recognized as a strong risk factor for many cancers.

As per the recent study published in British
Medical Journal, “High consumption of sugary drinks may rise the risks of
cancer”. According to researcher’s consumption of sugary drinks, artificially
sweetened beverages risks many cancers like breast, prostate and bowel
cancers.
For the research, 101257 healthy French adults were involved with average age of 42 years, two 24 hour online validated dietary questionnaires were performed with the participants. To measure their daily consumption of sugar sweetened drinks. The participants were then followed up to nine years.
When instances of cancer were first reported to the
study and were validated by medical records and health insurance databases.
After all the detailing 2193 cases of cancer were diagnosed, among them 693
were breast cancers, 291 were prostate cancers and 166 were colorectal cancers.
