A New Device That Will Quickly Identify Viruses & Will Help to Prevent the Spread of Infection

Researchers have created a device that is able to rapidly detect the development of various strains of the virus. It is so light that it can be brought and carried anywhere with hands. Researchers predict that with the help of this device the virus infection will be prevented from spreading.

Mauricio Teronas, who is associated with Penn State University and researcher of the study, said, "We have created an affordable device that can detect viruses based on its size." He used nanotubes in our device, which resembles a wide range of viruses in size. "We also used Raman spectroscopy to identify the virus." This technique is commonly used to study vibrations, rotations and other low frequency types.

This device is named 'Virrione'. It is expected that it can be used on a large scale. For example, with the help of this device, farmers can detect the virus spread in the field in time after sowing the crop. Apart from this, in the event of virus infection in livestock, their large herds can be saved from its grip. It currently takes at least a day to detect a virus infection, but with the help of this device, the virus can be detected and treated within minutes.

According to the study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, this device is further enhanced due to its small size and economical because sometimes it is not possible for doctors to keep every machine in their office and in remote areas. When infection spreads, heavy machines are impossible to move there. In such a new device can prove to be very helpful.

Virologists estimate that currently 16.7 million unknown viruses are present in animals, many of which can also infect humans. Many people died in the last decade due to known viruses such as H1N1, Zika and Ebola, because they are not known in time. The World Health Organization (WHO) says that if early detection of these viruses can reduce its risks to a great extent.

Teronas said, 'Currently most virus detection techniques are quite expensive. Viririon may prove to be a good choice for people in the future. He said that to make its quality effective, we have also added gold nanoparticles to this device. After this we found out easily on the low presence of virus. We created a library using machine learning method in which different types of viruses are placed.
